First cards posted finally

Finally sent my first round today. As you can see from the photo they are pretty colourful (Garden theme). I have recieved 5 and have only been able to change one so far. It is more difficult than I thought to change someone else's work.

Quick Tune In

It's been a while since I visited the blog, and it all looks different! I really love the look of it though! Good work, whoever is responsible!

I have seven patient postcards waiting for me...when I signed up, I told Peta I may be stretched getting this first lot done - I have an exhibition opening on 19th June. So my plan is to have a really busy few postcard days after that! Great to see some photos trickling in - I will get to put some up - maybe not in the next few days though!

I have finished Peta's postcard - can't quite bring myself to mail it back yet - I really did have fun with it! I guess that rules out one in your sleuthing, Peta! And I need to photograph all the finished ones together...at least that's what I'm telling myself!

Nice to 'meet' Olley and Donna - I must try to visit more often to keep up with things!

Have fun everyone!

Tracey.

Olley's photos

Amanda Lowjen sent me this card & I love the paint work; it's too pretty to alter.

Amanda's theme was "Moths". Mmm - interesting - this is what I came up with for the front....

....And for the back. I really wanted to keep this first postcard that I completed.

This is my original postcard that I sent to myself; everybody got one with a different shaped star - can't wait to get them all back.

Jude Roberts was the first to return my postcard; I added the teabag folded star & it looks great! Well done & thanks to Jude.

Hi everyone, I'm going to attempt to add photos!!! And I'm hoping that I don't accidently post all 120 photos that I just put into my computer program!!! I have posted a photo of the original state of my postcards that I sent out. They were sent out blank except for a star drawn on the surface which I asked the other postcarders not to put any artwork in as I would be putting a "tea bag folded" star on when they were returned to me. I also asked that they do a monochromatic theme in blues. Judy was the first to return hers completed & even though it wasn't in blues I think the contrasting abstract work sets off the star beautifully & I love the tea bag string that Judy also added. Next is the card I received from Amanda, & I love the paint work she has done. With the theme of "Moths" I was keen to get this one completed just to prove to myself that I can do this project. I had to send it back sraight away as this is the one that I wanted to keep just for the paint work - probably as my favourite colour is green. I hope you enjoy looking as much as I have enjoyed doing & receiving. Happy Creating, Olley.

This is what I've been working on over the past weekend

As promised here are a couple of pics of the 'box card' for my dads birthday and the collage from 'Layering the Landscape' workshop - I had a lot of fun being creative and learning from Helen (Sanderson - a Brisbane based artist).

I'll be making a start on the postcards this weekend! Have others started yet? My group has their full suite of first round postcards, how is everyone else going?

I've been having fun in my studio

Alas the seven postcards are still waiting for my creative artwork to adorn them ! I've been pre occupied with working on a 'box card' for my dads birthday (he turned 80 on May the 16th), I want to finish it so I can take it with me when I go down to Melbourne next week. I want to present it to him in person! I'm almost finished.....will post a photo up when it's completed. Meanwhile I'm still tossing ideas and images around in my head about the postcards.......

Olley, I want to congratulate you on being successful with putting up your post yesterday! Your story of the late morning gave me a little chuckle, what family hasn't had this experience! I am looking forward to you mastering uploading photos - your finished postcard sounds fascinating, especially the 'teabag star'! I have a small collection of teabags (used of course!), they are great for all sorts of applications, sewing other 'bits' onto them, collaging - great for creating an aged looking surface, I used this technique in the Helen Sanderson workshop a couple of weekends ago - I'll post a photo of what I produced - soon! I've also seen teabags bound together to create a book form, then of course there is the technique that Nanette uses with layering teabags and other interesting stuff together...I'm looking forward to learning more about this......

Take care all.... stay happy and be creative!!

Hello Postcarders!!!

Hello Postcarders!!! First of all - if you look at the contributors list you will notice that Olga ( Olley) Bath is listed twice. Now... I'm not sure if that's because I'm lucky, clever, important or just plain selfish!! Actually I have a google/blogger account (which ever it is) at home & at the shop - both different email addresses & that's my excuse & I'm sticking to it. So, here I am finally after trying twice to actually post something & failing twice. I will not be clever enough this time to add photos - but I am working on it for next time. I have received all but one of my groups cards. I have finished one which I am posting back tomorrow - however I would selfishly like to keep it as I quite like the original art work & I have also received one of mine back (from Judy) which I lovvvvve & have added the finishing touch - the teabag folded star that I did for all of mine before sending them out & it looks great against Judy's absract art work. Peta - your photo is lovely - I'm jealous! I woke this morning to more cold winds, dry grass & only some spiders webs - but of the 'cover your gutter' kind, a lot of fog...gy brain matter after going to bed late & the only walk I got to do today was to the school office to get late notes for my kids! Skite (you, not me). Tee Hee. Well, I hope everyone has as much fun with this as I intend to & I look forward to the possibilty of an exhibition & to be able to meet those that I haven't met yet. Take Care, Keep Smilling & Happy Creating, Olley. PS has anyone played around with the font? What or who is Webdings supposed to be for??

Early morning walk

The weather is just beautiful at this time of the year in Central Qld! Bruce, Sirius (our English Pointer) and I went for a lovely early morning walk this morning, on one of the walking tracks on our property. There was a little bit of fog around just after sunrise, I snapped some lovely photos of trees, spider webs and Sirius!

Some photos as promised!

My weekend is flying by as usual! At least I have been in the studio for a few hours today, I have yet to start 'doing something' to the seven postcards I now have...they are already lovely!....just as they are... I guess I'll have to take the plunge sooner or later....
How is everyone going so far? I believe there were still a couple of postcards to come to Olley and Donna's groups, I have also heard that the postcards that have arrived are wonderful, full of potential for everyone to be as creative as they want to be.
I would love to see some photos of the postcards from Olley and Donna's groups...would someone who is savvy with uploading be able to do this?... I'm sure that others in my group would like a peek too.

Posting back your completed postcard

Great stuff Kym! I love the way you just get in there and put pics and blogs up! Good question about posting the postcards back! I already have one completed and posted back of mine! The other side to the addressed side has been worked on (and it looks fantastic !) the original addressed side has been left as I created it with a new stamp put over the original stamp, the original address has been painted lightly over and my address has been written on the top of this. Another alternative would be to work over the front and the back and just create a new space for the address and place a new stamp on the front. Are there any other idea's?

I also think it would be a lovely idea for each artist on completion of their postcards to sign their work or if artists are uncomfortable with having their signature exposed, simply write your name on your work.

I've been at a wonderful workshop all weekend "Layering the Landscape" with Helen Sanderson - A Brisbane based artist, It was a very stimulating and playful workshop, where I learnt a lot from Helen as well as the other participating artists. Helen was in Rockhampton to open the travelling exhibition "In Your Dreams" which is well worth looking at. See it at The Rockhampton Gallery or on Helens website: www.helensanderson.com.au

Kym's Theme ~ Butterflies :)

From this ~

To this ~

Sent out to the Postcard Participants in Peta's Group.
Hi Everyone,
Like Peta & Tracey, I too was excited when I received 4 postcards in my post office box.
They are now sitting on the table together looking at me to find inspiration for each theme. I'll take some photo's & share them with you later.
I chose butterflies, keen to see this collaboration take flight. And I cheated with little stickers on watercolour paper.
Looking forward to receiving the postcards back again at the end of June.
......I'm wondering if I'm the only one, thinking about how I send the postcard back to the participant, so it doesn't get mixed up with addresses.....
It's a great concept to be creative with a postcard.
If anyone would like to post or send photo's in, I'm happy to do this for you or if you would like to understand the blog better, please email me :)
Having Fun with ART,
Kym :)

My Postcard Collection Is Growing

Hi Everyone,
I, too was excited to receive 4 postcards in yesterdays mail...all so different, all so interesting and clever...
I was a little concerned starting this, as I have a pretty hefty deadline to meet in mid June, that being involved in this collaboration might just stress and stretch me even further - but I think the opposite might be true...I am more inspired and energised by the appearance of these treasures in my mailbox. I wonder if it's the playful nature of the whole thing, or perhaps the contact with other artists' art (which is something I sorely lack). Whatever it is, I think it is giving my other work a bit of a kick along and certainly brightening up my mail collection days!

I have this overwhelming urge to write great long stories on the postcards - is anyone else experiencing that? Maybe that writer I have long suspected was buried in me is trying to liberate herself?!

Sitting here with the cards in front of me, I'm looking forward to seeing what I'll do with them, and to see what others do with mine. It always fascinates me how much of ourselves we reveal in the work we do - how each of us has a 'signature' that we leave on the things we create - even when I try not to, it still happens!

Have fun everyone!

Tracey.

My Mailbox was full of Postcards!!!

Postcards, postcards, postcards!!! Four in all! And they are all sooo creative and also just lovely in their 'unadorned' state! I am thrilled with the amazing themes, they are all so different! I will have to put my creative brain into gear and start playing....

How is everyone going? What are your initially responses to creating and sending out your first batch of postcards? and what are your responses to receiving your cards? I would be very interested in hearing from artists in each group.....if you're not sure how to do this on the postcard blog, either by posting a blog or commenting on a blog, then consider contacting Kym and asking for help...if I can do it then anyone can!!
